The Mont-Blanc ascent is a mountaineering route in high altitude. It means that it requires a very good physical condition, good acclimatization and being able to walk with crampons in mixed terrain (rocks + snow 🏔).
Our Mont-Blanc ascent is a 6-days program with the following objectives:
- Acquiring the basic techniques essential for progressing with crampons.
- Physical preparation for altitude acclimatization.
Ascending the Mont-Blanc over 3 days allows you to smooth out your effort and give yourself more flexibility if the weather conditions are changing. Be careful, this does not make the ascent any easier as it involves a long day to get from the Tête Rousse refuge to the summit (Walking time: 8 to 12 hours – altitude difference: +1700m / -1000m).
Physically, Mont-Blanc is a very long hike. All our customers agree that it represents a considerable effort. You need to be extremely well prepared to have any chance of success, and above all, to enjoy it.
Day 1 and 2: Gran Paradiso ascent 🇮🇹 4061m.
Departure from Chamonix to the Chabot refuge in Italy. We will ascent a 4 000 m summit on day 2. This climb is technically speaking easy and it is a good exercise to learn new skills or improve.
Walking time: 2 to 3 hours to reach the mountain hut then 6 to 8 hours to reach the summit and descend.
Accommodation on Day 1: Half-board at the Chabot hut: included.
Day 3: rest day or one-day alpine ascent.
This rest day is optional but quite often appreciated after 2 days in high mountains.
Possibility to add an extra one-day alpine ascent on this day. (Cosmiques ridge (mixed route), Vallée Blanche traverse to the Skyway, etc.)
Accommodation in Chamonix: not included.
Day 4 to 6: Mont-Blanc ascent :
It may occurs that you cannot find availability while looking for booking your trip. Please contact us, we just need to make sure there is availability at the Goûter refuge.
- Day 4 : Les Houches – Tête Rousse hut.
Departure in the afternoon from the Bellevue cable car in Les Houches to reach the Nid d’Aigle (2 370 m) with the Mont-Blanc tramway. Then it takes about 2h of hiking on a nice track to reach the Tête Rousse refuge at 3 167 m, where we will stay overnight.
Walking time: 2 hours – Elevation gain: +800m.
Half-board accommodation at the Tête Rousse hut: included
- Day 5 : Tête Rousse hut – Mont-Blanc summit – Goûter hut.
Big day with an early start to reach the Goûter hut at 3 835 m. At the hut, we will have a short break and store not essential gear to reach the summit of Mont-Blanc. From there, it is a 1 000 m ascend to the top.
Descent by the same route and night at the Goûter hut.
Walking time: 8 to 12 hours – Elevation gain: +1700m / -1000m.
Half-board accommodation at the Goûter hut : included
- Day 6 : Refuge du Goûter – Les Houches.
On this day, we will hike back to the valley. Early departure to take advantage of the good conditions. Return to Les Houches mid-day / early afternoon.
Walking time : 3 to 5 hours – Elevation loss : -2300m.
Important: the program and the itineraries can be modified at any time by the guide according to the weather and the mountain forecast.
We prefer to form a group with people who know each other. Indeed, this type of climb depends on your physical fitness and therefore on the homogeneity of the group. We know from experience that mixing people who don’t know each other can lead to frustration.
